Bariatric Surgeries

Bariatric Surgeries

Scientific research has proven the benefit of bariatric surgery (surgery to treat obesity) in terms of survival in obese patients with a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 30.

Bariatric surgery requires very close multi-disciplinary pre- and postoperative surveillance. In addition, great care must be taken to choose the most appropriate surgical technique, based on criteria such as the patient's BMI (Body Mass Index), eating habits, comorbidity, age, etc. When the appropriate technique is used, success rates of 70% to 80% after five years are generally achieved.

At JJIMS, multi-disciplinary treatment is available, provided by a wide range of specialists involved in the treatment of obesity, including surgeons, endocrinologists, nutritionists, psychiatrists, gastroenterologists, pulmonologists, etc.

The full spectrum of bariatric surgical techniques is available, including gastric binding, gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy.

Procedures are performed by experienced surgeons while ensuring maximal patient safety:

  • Complete preoperative assessment: blood tests, chest and stomach x-rays, gastric fibroscopy, electrocardiogram, etc.
  • Operative decisions made during multi-disciplinary staff meetings
  • Any postoperative complications are immediately treated through the on-site imaging department and interventional endoscopy services
